Alexa Volpe, PharmD – President/Founder
Alexa Volpe founded the Imagination Library of San Antonio (ILSA) to address an urgent need: Broad access to early literacy enrichment programs. Alexa Volpe believes access to Dolly Parton’s evidence-based book gifting program will improve literacy and school readiness within our community, and foster a love of reading among children and families. Dr. Volpe is a Senior Licensed Pharmacy Researcher at Oracle Health focused on developing drug information content for clients, clinicians, and patients. She is licensed to practice pharmacy in the states of Texas and Georgia.
Juan B. Gutiérrez, PhD – Treasurer
Juan B. Gutiérrez is a published author who understands the immense importance of early literacy. Dr. Gutiérrez is a Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His area of expertise is data science and his research has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dr. Gutiérrez has published works of fiction, and has a degree in civil engineering and a Ph.D. in mathematics.
Sandy Norman, EdD – Secretary
Sandy Norman is a mathematics lecturer at the University of Texas at San Antonio; he previously served as Chair, and then Assistant Chair of the Department of Mathematics. He is an expert in Mathematics Education and has extensively published in this area. Dr. Norman brings years of experience as an educator to the Imagination Library of San Antonio and he recognizes that early access to books and reading is fundamental for child development and lifelong learning.
Kathleen Ball, PMP, MBA – Director of Development
Kathleen Ball brings a wealth of strategic leadership experience to her role as Director of Development for the Imagination Library of San Antonio. Currently the San Antonio Site Lead for General Dynamics Mission Systems, Kathleen’s expertise in building partnerships and managing complex projects enhances her ability to connect donors with the Imagination Library’s mission. Her diverse experience in both military and civilian sectors uniquely positions her to drive fundraising efforts and expand the organization’s impact in promoting childhood literacy across San Antonio.
Jennifer Herrera, MS – Director of Marketing
Jennifer Herrera is a San Antonio native who has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 15 years specializing in public relations, social media, and community engagement efforts. Ms. Herrera brings her advanced training in journalism and nonprofit management to ILSA. She prioritizes community involvement in San Antonio and has served on the boards of other local nonprofits promoting sustainability through creativity and the arts.
Aileen Fortune, CPA – Director of the Board
Aileen Fortune is currently a tax manager at Ernst & Young in the partners of the firm compliance area. Mrs. Fortune brings years of tax management experience to the Imagination Library of San Antonio and is determined to leverage her expertise as a financial planner to ensure optimal growth and fund management at ILSA. Mrs. Fortune loves reading and enjoys attending her local book club.
